Learn To Bake
Simple Sponge Cakes
For The Sponge You Will Need:
275g Self-raising Flour
225g Soft margarine
4 tablespoons of milk
1 level teaspoon of baking powder
225g Caster sugar
2-3 Drops of vanilla essence
For The Sugar Icing You Will Need:
225g icing sugar
About 2 tablespoons of water
1. Grease the tin. Draw around it using baking parchment or greaseproof paper. Cut out the shape and put it in the tin.
2.Turn on the oven to 180 degrees C or gas mark 4. Put a sieve over a large mixing bowl and sift the flour through it.
3.Add the margarine, milk, baking powder, sugar and vanilla. Break the eggs into a small bowl, then add them too. Beat everthing well.
4.scrape the mixture into the tin and smooth the top. Bake it for 40-45 minutes, until the cake springs up when you press in the middle.
5.Make the icing when the cake has cooled completely. For sugar icing sift the icing sugar into a bowl. Add a little water and stir hard.
Add some more water and stir again. Continue to do this until the icing coats the back of the spoon and dribbles of it.
6. Eat your delicous cake!
